Backyard Bird Friends
2024
Some common birds found in the neighborhood.
Mindanao Bleeding-heart
March 18, 2021. Procreate. A commissioned piece.
As I am very passionate about studying birds endemic to the Philippines, I enjoyed painting this bird. There is no holding back when it comes to this bird's colors; it goes all out with the red and turquoise, and I am living for it.

Neighborhood Birds
June 22, 2020. Colored pencils.
These are some of the regular visitors and residents in our area. My main goal was to capture the vibrancy of their colors.
Mourning dove.
January 31, 2021. Procreate. A commissioned piece.
A very pretty bird.
Friendly woodswallows.
April 2, 2020. Watercolor.
I tried my best to capture how I saw these white-breasted woodswallows as a bystander from the ground, focusing mostly on the lighting. They are very cute when they snuggle up together.

Sparrows and finches.
July 10, 2021. Watercolor and colored pencils.
Eurasian tree sparrow, scaly-breasted munia, and java sparrow; these are some of the small, grass-dwelling birds I've seen in the past year. The combination of watercolor and pencils allowed me to play around more with the textures on the birds' feathers.
“To be standing together in a frosty field, looking up into the sky, marvelling at birds and revelling in the natural world around us, was a simple miracle. And I wondered why we were so rarely able to appreciate it.”
- Lynn Thomson, Birding with Yeats: A Mother's Memoir
